Around 35 million pineapples produced year around. This is around 1.5 pineapples per person in Australia!
Seasonality
Pineapples, despite their summery flair, are produced and available year-round in Australia, making them a staple for any good fruit bowl.
During cooler months, sweet pineapples have their crowns removed to signal that they are a higher quality, sweeter variety. Growers developed this type which is suited specifically for Queensland's sub-tropical growing conditions. The crowns are then replanted to create a new crop of pineapples.
